Treatment
This section provides guidance on treatment options for early breast cancer to assist health professionals in delivering evidence-based, best-practice care underpinned by the key principles of care and supporting shared decision-making between patients and their health professionals.
Recommendations and practice points are included for research and clinical trials, neoadjuvant therapy, surgery (timing, breast-conserving surgery, mastectomy, breast reconstruction, sentinel node biopsy, management of the axilla, risk-reducing strategies), systemic therapy (assessment of markers and systemic therapy planning, chemotherapy, cardiac dysfunction, endocrine therapy, anti-HER2 therapy, and bone modifying agents and bone health), and radiation therapy.
The recommendations and practice points are a guide to appropriate practice, to be followed subject to the clinician’s judgement and the person’s preference in each individual case.
