Treatment planning, information and support

This section provides guidance for the initial period after diagnosis of early breast cancer to support a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach to care that informs and involves patients in preparation for their treatment.

Recommendations and practice points are included on multidisciplinary care and care coordination, the provision of information and support for patients, appropriate assessment and referral, complementary therapies/medicines and alternative therapies, and pathology and imaging prior to treatment.

The recommendations and practice points are a guide to appropriate practice, to be followed subject to the clinician’s judgement and the person’s preferences in each individual case.
